My partner recently traded in a 2023 Kia Forte basically brand new roughly 18-20,000 miles on it. It was traded for a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer LT with 60,000 miles on it. From the start of our experience it wasn’t great we went to that location because we seen the car online and that’s where it said it was. We went to the car lot to look at the car and they said it wasn’t there it was at there Hickory location and they would have it on the way and call us when it got there. Fast forward they called around lunch time saying the car was there we go back and the car is still NOT there even though he just called us and told us it was. He assures us it’s on the way and we sit and wait around until it’s time to get the kids from school and we tell them we have to go and that’s when we found out the car was still sitting in Hickory and was NEVER in transport. The car didn’t arrive until around dinner time and we wasn’t even able to go back and get the car until the next day after waiting all day. Despite everything we had to deal with we still ended up getting the car and $4,000 in negative equity. Fast forward again after a month of having the vehicle the message “shift to park”. When this message is present you can NOT turn the car off. This isn’t normal and indicates there is something wrong with the vehicle. A couple weeks later we have a new message “service park brake”. We took the car straight to the dealership from this message and they are now telling us it’ll be $180 just to even look at the car to tell us what it needs when they are the ones who just sold it to us so there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it? It sounds to me like they took advantage of us because we are young and took our brand new car with no issues and handed us one with not one but two separate issues in just a matter of weeks. So now we have to go into negative equity again to trade in this car after we just paid off all the previous negative equity because we don’t feel comfortable keeping a car that’s gave us two separate issues in such little time of having the car. We just want to warn young people like us to not do business alone with these dealerships and to make sure there’s 100% nothing wrong with the car you are getting if it’s used.

Response from owner

We’re very sorry to hear of your troubles with your Trailblazer but we believe you have the wrong dealership and would appreciate if you took this down and give the appropriate store the review. We don’t have a Hickory location and don’t show a transaction of this nature in recent history. If you are close to us, we would be happy to look at your Trailblazer and see what needs to be done to fix the issues.

Truck has less than 4000 miles. Let me repeat less than 4000 miles. Throttle sticks, cruise control don’t work. I think one might have to do with the other. Maybe not. But it is generous to drive. Lemon law

This was a terrible experience. I could write a short story on the mess this dealership put me in. I bought a new car in 2022 then traded in the same year for a bigger and cheaper car because my family size changed. I was lied to by the salesman the day I traded, lied to by both finance managers.Ill spare their names. I have brought my car into that dealership 37 times since September of 2023. I have been on the side of road needing a tow twice. I have a $30,000 car that half works. The owner will refuse to talk to customers no matter the need. I have escalated this higher. I would never recommend to purchase a vehicle through this dealer.

Response from owner

(reposting as 7/21/24 reply still hasn't uploaded) We appreciate your past business and feedback, but statements made in your review are not accurate and are very unfair to the employees who have bent over backwards trying to take care of your legitimate issues. Issues that were addressed and all covered under warranty. They even went to bat for you in getting a very large dollar value certificate from General Motors to help you get into another vehicle. The number of times your vehicle has been in our repair facility is in the single digits. Nowhere close to thirty-seven, and some of those visits included regular maintenance. We cannot do anything about current market values, negative equity, mileage depreciation, etc. Market factors combined with your very specific vehicle needs make it extremely difficult to put something together that works for both you and us, but we have been trying, nonetheless. No one has lied to you. There is no hidden anything. Everything we do during a sale is laid out very clearly, and you reviewed and signed all the documents pertaining to your purchase. I have never refused to talk to anyone. Not one single person has told you that. Regardless, Landon, who spent many hours on this, along with other employees are fully capable of handling customers’ issues, while keeping me informed of any unusual situation. That is exactly what they did here and what they always do. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a group of people more concerned with taking care of their customers than here at Jim Cook Chevrolet GMC. We are more than happy to continue, within reason, to take care of you in service and in finding the right vehicle, but you are also more than welcome to seek out a store that can better meet your demands. When the supposed honest army boy salesman there sales you a car and the cigarette/power out put doesn't work and the financing manager says it's not covered by the warranty but it wasn't working so much for them being honest a bunch of lying crooks and the army boy is supposed to be honest just a disgrace to his uniform do not buy a car go to the one in Morganton all they do is try their hardest to screw you over but the service dept especially the lady that works there is awesome she is helpful just don't buy anything from the army boy cause if he doesn't know anything about the cars he sales. Just shows what kind of soldier he was most likely not double checking equipment I wouldn't want to serve in a fix hole with someone like that

Response from owner

Hello, this is Jeremy Davis, the sales manager at Jim Cook. I apologize that you did not receive the proper handling of your issue. I am a little confused about the situation, as I have not been made aware of the problem until now. I would like an opportunity to take care of you the best I can. Please, at your convenience give me a call here in the office. Thank you

Hello, we value ALL feedback but, leaving us a 1-star review without so much as a simple explanation is not helpful to anyone reading these reviews. And since we have no record of any interaction with you, we have no way of figuring out what went wrong and how to make sure that it does not happen again. If you would be so kind to reach out to Erin at (828) 652-3221 and share your experience, we can learn what we could have done differently and perhaps help you and others in the future. Thanks!

Stopped to have brake work done...the guy looked at it and said it was fine. (I knew it wasnt). Took them an hour to take the wheel off...then charged me 60$ for it...and told me itd cost 315$ to change the caliper....I went to autozone, 55$ caliper and did it myself....will not ever be returning to this location

Response from owner

Hello, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service, so we are disappointed to hear that your visit with us was anything less than satisfactory however you were informed when you arrived (without an appointment) that it was going to take a little time to work you in. We charged you for the time spent diagnosing your problem. We cannot compete with do-it-yourself prices as we have highly-trained & compensated technicians & we back our work up 100%. At no time did anyone tell you the problem that you had was "fine."

The worst every ....the service manager was very rude and very unprofessional...she even got an attitude with my 17 year old son...now he was upset because is car was not right and still under factory warranty and she told gm that she would not repair it...but my son at no time did anything disrespectful towards her he was just upset ...but she took it upon her self to be disrespectful to him...just very rude and very bad attitude...I would recommend taking your business to McCurry -Deck as long as she is there working ..Its a little further to drive but at least they will treat you properly and take care of the issue that is under factor warranty with no issues ...trust me its worth the drive ...it will take a little more of your time but you will be very well taken care of..and so much happier with the results....I would give them a minus 5 stars but that's not a option ...Steve should reevaluate his staff before he loses all his business to his competitors ..

They push to much try to make a sell that you don't want to . If you buy a vehicle from here you are going to regret it.

We broke down on our way to Asheville. We had our truck towed here over the weekend. The looked at it on Monday and made the initial diagnosis that the transfer case needed to be replaced but it took them til Friday to actually replace the transfer case. When they went to replace the transfer case they found another problem with the transmission but couldn't get it looked at until Monday. On the 2nd Friday that they'd had the car (2 full weeks now) they told me it still wouldn't be done until the following week. I asked what needed to be done and they said they still had to install the transfer case and the drive shaft. Only an hour later I called back and they said the parts were back in the vehicle but they still wouldn't get the car to me until Monday. There was still a couple hours left before they closed and all they had to do was put some fluid in and test drive it but they wouldn't give me the car back til Monday. Only after I demanded my car back and showed up in person did they get the work done. Jim Cook's knew I was broke down and did not care about the customer at all. They are incredibly slow and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend Jim Cook's to anyone.

Hello, thank you for leaving us feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your experience was not a positive one. Thanks for being honest and letting us know where we dropped the ball. Without feedback we'll never improve. I've attempted to phone you couple times to discuss this further but so far unsuccessfully. Feel free to call me at 828-652-3221 if you'd like to speak with me about this event further. Erin Adams - GM - Jim Cook Chevy

Before purchasing, the dealership was helpful and easy to contact. I will say they were very pushy for me to buy the car that day when I explained twice that it was the first car I had test drove and felt more comfortable testing out other cars before I made a final decision. After they got my money, I realized what kind of people I was dealing with. I called the day after my purchase to try and get a copy of my service agreement because I was not able to find the copy given to me at the time of signing. I spoke with Chris and he continued to tell me that I have a copy. I had to ask three times if he would just send me another copy which he said he would put in the mail. Waited almost a month, then Megan contacted me asking me if I wanted my plate mailed to me. I told her that I did and also would like a copy of my service agreement that I still had yet to receive and she continues to tell me that I have a copy already. So a week goes by, my temporary tag expires, and I have not received my plate OR the copy of the service agreement. When I call the dealership to ask about it, I started explaining my situation to the general manager who cuts me off mid sentence to tell me that a salesperson had just walked in and she can't talk to two people at once so she would need to call me back. Well days go by, still no plates. Turns out it got lost in the mail because my address was written illegibly so USPS mixed up the address. The icing on the cake was when I went to get an oil change and was charged when I stated during the sigining of my contract that I would like oil changes included. I would NEVER recommend this dealership to anyone. I definitely feel my lack of knowledge in purchasing cars was taken advantage of.

jim cook chevrolet has unprofessional service people in parts department...spent money on gas and time because they told me to come down anytime before 5 and they could help me...well when i get there at 3 they tell me the person went on vacation and no one else knows how to make a key ...you work in the parts department and dont know how to make a key?!?...absolutely horrible....not recommended at all!!

Response from owner

Greg, I apologize as there is no excuse for what happened. I can only say that we’re not perfect and sometimes we make mistakes. Per our conversation on the phone you have a $XXX credit here at the store, to make up for your time and fuel, that you can use however you see fit and at your leisure. Again, I apologize and I hope that we can make it up to you in the future with outstanding service. Steve Dirhold
